The spurts of growth in China's economy have been accompanied in the past by high inflation rates. Inflationary pressures include generous credit for state-owned firms, budget deficits and high foreign investment. Reforms are necessary to improve and sustain economic growth.

Chinese economic growth has slowed for a number of reasons such as sluggish domestic demand. State banks need restructuring, and other changes are also needed in the state sector to help the economy to recover.
