RANBAXY, CIPLA JOIN HANDS TO MARKET SELECT DRUGS
Article Abstract:
Ranbaxy and Cipla have entered into an alliance to jointly market a select range of drugs. The two pharmaceutical companies will leverage their strengths in the cardiovascular and perennial anti- infectives market. The two companies are initially launching Carvedilol, an aniti-hypertensive and Cefpodoxime Proxetil, an advanced oral cephalosporin. Ranbaxy will market the anti- hypertensive under the brand name of Caslot while Cipla will market it under the brand name of Carloc. Ranbaxy will market the oral cephalosporin under the brand name of Cepodem while Cipla will market it under the brand name of Cefoprox. Ranbaxy has developed the oral cephalosporin while Cipla has developed the anti-hypertensive and each will buy the bulk drug from the other. (khr)

ORCHID CHEM TO SET UP Rs50-CRORE PLANT IN TN
Article Abstract:
Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a major producer of cephalosporins, plans to set up a new plant at the Cuddalore chemical complex in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs50 crore. The unit is to produce non-cephalosporin bulk drugs like Azithromycin, Clarithromycin and Roxythromycin. These are to be exported mainly to South America, the Far East and other non- patented countries. This project will be taken up after the company completes setting up its proposed formulations unit at Chennai. (khr)
