A DAY OF HIGH DOLLAR SALES

Article Abstract:

The rupee closed at 42.405/41 against the US dollar (USD) in the forex market on February 22, 1999. During the day, most of the banks sold dollars in the market to exploit the longer settlement periods for the spot trades of February 23, 1999. The spot trade for February 23 have been raised due to the proposed bank strike on February 25 and 26. The State Bank of India offered buying support to the dollar at 42.395. The dollar finally closed at 42.41 levels at the end of the day. The forward premiums on the dollar reported a two-way movement. (ag)(m)

NDRI-EVOLVED COW SETS MILK YIELD RECORD

Article Abstract:

Kamdhenu, a crossbreed cow evolved at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) has produced a record 44.2 kg of milk in a single day. The earlier record had been made by another crossbreed cow at the NDRI in 1975, by yielding a 44 kg daily peak output of milk. Kamdhenu was born in April 1992 and has yielded over 20,000 litres of milk in the last 5 years. (khr)
