RBL IN TALKS WITH 3 MULTINATIONALS

Article Abstract:

Rajasthan Breweries Ltd (RBL) is negotiating with three beer multinationals to either infuse funds in the existing company or to set up a separate joint venture. The company's brewery, which has a capacity of 165 hectolitres, is presently running at 50 percent of its capacity. Out of the total capacity utilisation of 80 hectolitres, RBL is using 70 percent to produce UB's brands - Bullet Super Strong and Kingfisher and the remaining capacity to produce Stroh Beer, with which it has a licensing arrangement. SA UNIT IN REVAMP MODE

Article Abstract:

The UB group has said that the lager facility of National Sorghum Breweries Ltd (NSBL) of South Africa has reduced its workforce by 1000 and undertaken a business process review with the help of Proudfoot of South Africa. Its operations had become dormant due to bad management and improvident investments made in the past. The UB group, which acquired a 30 percent stake in NSBL through an off-shore vehicle two years ago, is thinking of buying back the stake. (khr)

GOETZE INDIA FORMULATES VRS PACKAGE

Goetze India, part of the Escorts group, plans to restructure its operations. It has chalked out a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for its employees. It plans to reduce the workforce by 200 in the first year of restructuring. It plans to shift its employees to group companies. It has put on hold all investments and expansion plans for 1998-99.
