RBS may face climb on ABN bid: long talks are possible with Bank of America over LaSalle unit offers

Article Abstract:

A consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland PLC may face lengthy negotiations involving Bank of America Corp. and the division of LaSalle Bank, the American unit of ABN Amro Holding N.V. The consortium has offered 72.27 bil euros for ABN; however, ABN has already accepted a bid by Barclays PLC for 64.13 bil euros.

Talk intensifies over BNP's possible bid for Societe Generale

Speculation continues regarding the possibility that France's biggest bank, BNP Paribas S.A., may make an offer to take over troubled Societe Generale S.A. Societe Generale was hit by a significant loss due to unapproved trades, but its stock price increased 1.7% to $123.81 with speculation regarding a BNP offer.

HVB has possible buyer for unit
