RWE plans to build pipeline to Belgium

Article Abstract:

RWE AG of Germany is to construct a gas pipeline across the European Union from the Czech Republic to Belgium. The pipeline would carry 5 billion cubic meters of additional gas from Russia and/or the Middle East to supply Germany, United Kingdom and Belgium markets. The investment is valued at 1 billion Euros ($1.3 billion).

Severstal reaches deal to acquire Celtic Resources

Russia's OAO Severstal will buy UK gold mining company Celtic Resources Holdings PLC for $361.8 mil. The Russian steel firm boosted its original offer by 7%, as Celtic Resources officials had indicated the initial bid undervalued the firm.

Rising mining costs weigh on Rio Tinto's earnings

Article Abstract:

First-half net profit for Australia mining firm Rio Tinto Ltd. fell 14% to $3.25 bil, despite gross revenue rising 15% to reach $13.93 bil. The drop was due in part to higher costs, which cut $503 mil from the company's earnings.
