Raising awareness of architecture in schools

Article Abstract:

The Urban Studies Committee of the Winchester Preservation Trust aims with its Chippendale Venture, an environmental design scheme, to allow school children to become more interested in architecture. Three schools in Winchester will take part in designing a temporary theatre, with 58 children working in small groups and receiving advices from a local planner, an architect and a landscape architect. The programme has now been running for four years, and the 1993 project is funded by the Arts Council.

The architect as adjudicator

Article Abstract:

The RIBA believes that adding an adjudication clause to JCT80 would erode the role of the architect in construction still further. Architects regard adjudicating between contractors and employers as one of their main duties under JCT80, and a new clause would interfere with this responsibility. However, contractors do not like it when architects are judging their own performance, and in such situations they would prefer to have an independent adjdicator.
