Real-estate reform is solution for Japan

Article Abstract:

An economic deregulation, specifically that of land reform, could possibly be the answer to Japan's economic problems. Most Japanese live in below- quality housing accomodations. With the implementation of a real estate program, the quality of life of Japanese consumers could be elevated and a subsequent increase in demand for merchandise could follow. More than 9% of the Tokyo metropolis is considered as agricultural land which could be developed into quality housing areas.

Patriotism and faith line Pakistan's road to reform

Article Abstract:

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's economic reform program is met with faith and patriotism. Sharif's debt-reduction campaign, announced during his election in February 1997, already collected more than $100 million. Pakistan has $30 billion in external debt and more than $22 billion in public debt. The new administration faces a debt-reduction aim of 4% of gross domestic product which was promised by the previous Bhutto administration.

India's unstoppable march toward economic reform

Article Abstract:

India's democracy may facilitate the country's transition from a command economy to a capitalist society. The Indian budget for 1997 calls for tax cuts and import tariff reduction to achieve an 8% economic growth and the widespread consensus on economic reform by most political parties may well mean that these figures are attainable.
