Article Abstract:

German production of blank and pre-recorded discs, tapes, cassettes and CDs amounted to more than 2.2 billion German marks in 1994, with a volume of 577.5 million units. Total sales of records, pre-recorded cassettes and CDs reached 4.7 billion German marks during the year. Output of pre-recorded cassettes and vinyl record is declining to be replaced by increased CD production, which has accounted for most growth in the industry since 1985, although the CD market is beginning to mature and growth is slowing.
