Australia's mining interests believe that the nation's environmental and native rights laws are hindering their capacity to develop Australia's vast mineral resources. Several mining projects have been abandoned on grounds that they are environmentally unsound or raise Aboriginal-heritage issues.

The road to a single market: Mercosur needs less red tape, but more common rules

Article Abstract:

Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Chile experience difficulties trading because of bureaucratic restrictions and inconsistent rules. Mercosur has attempted to resolve some trade issues as it creates a common market for the four countries and expands it to Latin America, but more progress is needed.

Sticky red tape: drug regulation in America

Article Abstract:

Vice-President Dan Quayle's attempt to deregulate the pharmaceutical industry is meeting resistance from the Food and Drug Administration. Quayle's recommendations for faster approval procedures are being ignored by FDA officials. Many FDA employees stand to lose their jobs under deregulation.
