Reformulating nonlinear combinatorial optimization problems for higher computational efficiency

Article Abstract:

A new linearization method for transforming nonlinear combinatorial optimization problems into linear forms that can be solved using commercially available codes is presented The method linearizes quadratic and cubic cross-product expressions in binary variables, thereby minimizing the number of extra linear constraints. Applications of the method on randomly genenerated test problems show it is better than existing methods in terms of analysis, computer time, tightness andnumber of iterations and nodes.

Network companies and competitiveness: a framework for analysis

Article Abstract:

A formal analytical network was developed for a 'network company' within the context of global competition. The proposed network was derived from the concepts of value chain and value system introduced by M E Porter. Its functioning is decomposed into a set of minimal and basic components that include elementary resources, methods, products and activities. The base set can be used to analyze and evaluate a 'network company' at any desired condensed level reflecting the needs of a competitive strategy formulation project.
