Regional planning guidance in England and Wales: back to the future?

Article Abstract:

An overview of regional planning in England and Wales is provided, including details of the progress of the regional planning guidance (RPG) at the middle of August 1995. Details of the RPG for a number of regions are given, including the North, Yorkshire and Humberside, North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, East Anglia, South East, South West, and Wales. An assessment and prognosis of the RPG is also included.

Results of a research on the proposed arrangements for strategic planning at regional and sub-regional levels in English regions based on a general discussion of the characteristics of sub-regional planning and development are reported. Also, the characteristics of strategic planning at regional and sub-regional levels in Scotland and Wales are examined.
