Region's turmoil has upside; some high-tech U.S. companies benefit from manufacturing deals

Article Abstract:

Asia's economic crisis is benefiting some manufacturers in the US. A case in point is Pixelworks Inc which has a manufacturing contract with Toshiba Corp. In return, Pixelworks got some financing for the development of its first semiconductor which is intended for high-definition TV sets and flat-panel monitors. Other beneficiaries of the Asian crisis are American consumers who get to purchase imports such as stereos and shoes at a very low cost and high-technology companies, that are creating partnerships with Asian corporations.

Shanghai spins off a little boomtown called Suzhou: Foreign companies have flocked to the area to produce everything from paper flowers to PCs

Article Abstract:

Manufacturing operations grow in Suzhou, China, a location that offers cheap labor and quick access to export processing centers. Many electronics companies have set up shop in Suzhou, but manufacturing prices are expected to rise as the area becomes more popular.
