Regulatory bill goes to panel in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

A major government panel in Hong Kong will discuss a far-reaching bill that would provide Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission greater investigative and regulatory powers. The panel is one of the final steps before the bill is submitted to the Legislative Council. Under the bill, the commission would be able for the first time to license and regulate electronic trading and Internet systems.

China Everbright swings to a profit on revenue surge, asset sales gains

Article Abstract:

China Everbright Ltd. posted a HK$86.6 million (10.7 million euros) profit for the 1999 first-half. The company posted a HK$425.9 million loss during the same period in 1998.
