Nortel Networks Corp.'s president and chief executive, John Roth, will retire from his posts in 2002 due to health reasons. The planned retirement of Roth will put pressure on the company to find a successor as it struggles with the economic slowdown.

Report to be critical of Hollinger directors

High-profile directors at Hollinger International Inc. are expected to come under scrutiny following an investigation into the alleged mishandling of payments made to top Hollinger executives including the newspaper publisher's former chief executive officer Conrad Black. The report, conducted by former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Richard C. Breedan, is expected to be critical of the Board's handling of a series of sales made by the company to entities in which Lord Black held ownership .

Report slams Hollinger's Black for a "corporate kleptocracy."

Article Abstract:

An investigation of spending practices at Hollinger International Inc. has revealed extensive misuse of funds by the publishing company's former chief executive officer Conrad Black, and the company's former chief operating officer David Radler. Both executives reportedly lined their pockets at the expense of Hollinger through shady business deals and lavish personal spending. Investigators are also holding accountable Hollinger's board of directors, especially its audit committee, for not having caught on to the fraudulent financial dealings at the company.
