This article discusses the 66 telecommunications licenses awarded by the Singapore government in its bid to become a regional base for the industry. Telecommunications will no longer be dominated in the city-state by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.

SingTel, Hutchison in India

Article Abstract:

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd.-backed Bharti Group has received eight new regional mobile licenses auctioned off by India's central government. Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. added three licenses. Mobile-phone users in India are expected to increase 56% by 2006, making the current market a competitive one as companies try to secure as many zones as possible.
