Smithfield Foods Inc. has made an offer to acquire IBP Inc. for $2.7 billion (3.13 billion euros). Smithfield's offer is an attempt to prevent a management-headed buyout on the part of IBP.

IBP shares dive as Tyson pulls out of planned tie-up

IBP Inc. saw its share value drop by 28% after Tyson Foods Inc. terminated its planned acquisition of the company. Tyson, which was planning to acquire IBP for $3.2 billion (3.7 billion euros), claimed IBP made false and misleading comments about its operations.
