Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common for the more prosperous Chinese state-owned companies to use western business consultants as they face growing competition from new businesses with a very modern image. They now acknowledge that is important to have detailed information about their competitors if they are to retain their market share. Consultancy McKinsey & Co, for example, now derives around one-third of its business from local clients, and is playing a key role in making state enterprises more efficient.

Article Abstract:

Changes to Chinese economic policy have given thousands of academic professionals the chance to make more mony in the private sector. Academic achievement, traditionally of paramount importance in chinese culture, has become less desirable in modern times. Many highly educated university professors are opting to work in lucrative business posts in preference to receiving low teachers' wages in academic institutions. Universities also receive extra funding through business practice.
