Revealed: Johnson and Studio BAAD's 'BioPort'

Article Abstract:

Studio BAAD and Philip Johnson and Alan Ritchie Architects are designing the BioPort project which will be located on the east headland of ChongMing island, north of Shanghai. The project is China's attempt to create a sustainable settlement for the 21st century. The project will take 20 years to complete and cost more than $1 billion.

Go play in the traffic

Article Abstract:

The Netherlands' Home Zones, which block automobile traffic on neighborhood streets, give children a safe place to play but children need to learn about the dangers of the real world. Growing up around streets with traffic teaches kids to be fearful of cars.

Putting children first

Article Abstract:

The Netherlands launched a program in 1999 that blocks automobile traffic on some neighborhood streets. The plan was to promote quiet and to give children a safe neighborhood in which to play.
