Ripe for picking

Article Abstract:

The British government is supporting the case for genetically modified foods, and this is linked to the view that the biotechnology industry deserves support as an industry with potential. Germany has backed its biotechnology industry, and Britain is to some extent competing with Germany. Critics argue that many German biotech companies lack management expertise. Britain is likely to focus on existing companies rather than on creating new ones. Tax benefits for stock ownership schemes amy also be used as a way of attracting talent to the sector.
