Rising to the funding challenge

Article Abstract:

Leeds-based mid-sized and small companies are often overlooked by large investment firms which tend to concentrate on large quoted companies. The lack of financial backing has led to an increase in the number of firms returning to private status. Venture capitalists are concerned about the high cost of private buyout failure, although the market appears to continue growing. Yorkshire-based engineering group Wellman was the subject of a 73 million pounds sterling management buyout at the end of 1997.
