A consortium comprised of Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, Fortis N.V., and Banco Santander Central Hispano SA is examining ways to thwart the sale of ABN AMRO Holding N.V. to Barclays PLC, including ABN's sale of LaSalle, its American unit, to Bank of America Corp. While ABN welcomes other bidders for LaSalle, a breakup fee would be involved.
