Routing flexibility and production scheduling in a flexible manufacturing system

Article Abstract:

A multiproduct, multiperiod, multistage network model can enhance routing flexibility and production scheduling in a flexible manufacturing system. Assuming the existence of altrnate routings and no setup time considerations, this model breaks down weekly production requirements to daily total production needs, sets the daily production quota for each operation of each part type and allocates the production quotas to machine groups given the flexibility of alternate routings.

Manufacturing lead times, system utilization rates and lead-time-related demand

Article Abstract:

A theoretical model is employed to analyze lead time planning problems encountered in the design of make-to-order manufacturing systems for two types of customer demand. Several parameters that could affect expected profit from these systems are considered in the study, including the manufacturing flow time and the order-acceptance rates. Results show that the optimal policy can reduce manufacturing lead times while increasing system utilization rates and the expected profit.

An operational decision model for lead-time and price quotation in congested manufacturing systems

Article Abstract:

Mathematical models of response times to customer orders are presented. Optimum scheduling and lot sizing requirements are suggested within a normative model of lead-time and price.
