Rethinking outsourcing in manufacturing: a tale of two telecom firms

Article Abstract:

Two case studies of Ericsson and Nokia are compared to focus on the cost and competence outcomes of outsourcing of manufacturing in the telecom equipment industry. The comparison reveals strikingly different strategies for production and outsourcing, which lends support for a critical rethinking of general outsourcing trends.

Corporate strategy in a small open economy: reducing product diversification while increasing international diversification

Research is presented concerning the performance and corporate strategy of 20 Swedish MNC's between 1985, 1994 and 1998. The trends towards product focusing, decrease in accounting-based performance and internationalization are discussed.
