Ruling the roost

Article Abstract:

The Peregrine Brokerage in Hong Kong is inextricably linked with its co-founder and chairman Philip Tose who is considered enigmatic by many. Through hard work, an appetite for risk and good connections, Tose has built Peregrine into a powerhouse firm. He is considered an outsider to many of Hong Kong's colonial establishment members who is more interested in cultivated business contacts with local magnates including Li Ka-shing. Tose's relationships with local businessmen have brought him valuable information for clients.

Safe is sound

Article Abstract:

Goldman Sachs is determined to retain a strong presence in Asia, despite economic instability in the region. It currently has 20 investments worth almost $700 million in Asia, and has played a key role in adding value to companies across Asia. It is seeking to derive maximum benefit from the decline in regional stock markets, and is considering investment in a number of companies that it believes have seen their shares unnecessarily downgraded.
