SEBI SACKS BSE CHIEF OVER PRICE RIGGING
Article Abstract:
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has sacked Mr Jasvantlal Chhotalal Parekh, the President of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). He has been accused of involvement in price manipulations of shares of BPL, Videocon International and Sterlite Industries during May 1998. Mr Parekh's one year term as President ends on March 31, 1999. He has been prohibited from holding any post on the BSE governing board or as an office bearer of the exchange or that of any capital market related public institution for a period of three years. Mr Parekh has secured a stay order from the Mumbai High Court against Sebi's order which empowers him to continue as president till 11:00 am on March 31, 1999. Sebi had earlier issued a showcause notice to Mr Parekh on February 10, 1999. (um)(vr)
