SK Telecom tops Macquarie as bidder for Hanarotelecom

Article Abstract:

SK Telecom Co., South Korea's biggest mobile operator by revenue and subscribers, has been identified as the preferred bidder to gain a controlling stake in Hanaro Telecom Inc., a broadband service provider. SK Telecom's bid price for the 38.9% stake was not disclosed, but speculation in the media place the deal at $1.24 bil, or $13.60 per share. Australian private equity firm Macquarie Group Ltd. is SK Telecom's rival for Hanaro.

France Telecom wins auction of Kenya stake

Article Abstract:

A consortium headed by France Telecom S.A. has won a 51% stake in telecommunications firm Telkom Kenya Ltd. at auction. The consortium's bid totaled $390 mil. Telkom Kenya has a fixed-line customer base of more than 280,000.
