SHAW WALLACE FILES CRIMINAL CASE AGAINST SUPER COSMETICS

Article Abstract:

A criminal case has been filed by Shaw Wallace & Company (SWC) against the directors of Super Cosmetics Private Limited (SCPL) owned by Kishore Chhabria. SWC has accused SCPL of false personation, fabrication of documents and providing false evidence in the case pertaining to the sale of SWC's consumer products division to Henkel Spic India Limited (HSIL). SCPL had obtained injunction restraining SWC from selling its stake in its consumer products division to HSIL. SWC claims that SCPL had received winding up orders from the Allahabad High Court two years ago. As per the Companies Act of 1956, no company which has received winding up orders can file legal proceedings against any other company. (vv)

HUES ARE PEACHES AND CREAM FOR COSMETIC SEGMENT

Article Abstract:

The government has treated cosmetics and toiletries as essential and not luxury goods and this has brought relief to the industry. This means that, while the basis of computation has not changed, the rates have also not increased. The industry will gain from the 5 percent benefit in Modvat, which has been increased to 100 percent. The excise duty on perfumed hair oil has been reduced to 16 percent but it is 30 percent for other cosmetics and toiletries. The customs duty on cosmetics has been reduced to 89 percent from 103 percent. (khr)
