Mr Pranab Barua has been appointed as the regional director of the Rs379 crore Reckitt & Colman India Ltd (RICL) for the south Asian region. He has stated that RCIL is for strategic alliances. It has already entered into an alliance with Nicholas Piramal India. RICL, which has recorded a growth of 15- 20 percent in the past 2 years, aims to achieve a growth of 40 percent in 1998. RCIL's list of brands include Cherry Blossom, Dettol, Robin Blue and Harpic. In the health-hygiene and home care segments, it is involved in business of pest control, fabric care, antiseptic, analgesic, laboratory care and polishes. HENKEL CLOSE TO SWC DEAL

Henkel Spic India Ltd (HSIL) is about to acquire the consumer product division of Shaw Wallace Ltd for Rs51.05 crore. HSIL incurred a net loss of Rs11.37 crore in the 18 months ended September 18, 1998. Its net sales were Rs141.88 crore. Its other income was Rs1.52 crore. Its interest was Rs10.16 crore. (gs)
