SWEDEN: DANICA SUCCESSFUL ON UNIT LINKED MARKET

Article Abstract:

The Danish insurance company Danica is successful on the Swedish unit linked market, the paper reports. Since the launch on 1 November, the company's sales of unit linked products in Sweden total SEK 150mn (USD 18mn). The goal is to reach a 5% market share. Danica co-operates with Ostgota Enskilda Bank about the sales in Sweden, and will possibly also consider selling through insurance brokers, according to deputy MD Sven Lysbaek. The company will also start targeting the Danish unit linked market. Sven Lysbaek says the Danish market should be ready for this kind of products by now.

DENMARK: DANICA HAS BEEN AWARDED A PRIZE

Article Abstract:

The Danish insurance company Danica has been awarded the prize "The European Telework Award" by DG XII, which is a department of the European Commission. Danica was awarded the prize for its development of mobile offices, telephone sales and telephone consultancy services. In 1998, 260 of the company's insurance agents got home offices. This means costs for the sales staff have decreased by DKr 18mn (USD 2.5mn) on an annual basis, and in 1999, the sales of life-insurance policies have increased by 15% and the sales of non-life insurance policies by 12%.

DENMARK: TRYG-BALTICA'S SIX MONTHS RESULT

Article Abstract:

Danish insurance company Tryg-Baltica shows an income before taxes of 444 million DKr (US$62.5mn) for the first six months this year, down from 815 million DKr in 1998. For non-life insurance the technical income amounted to 228 million DKr, compared to 79 million DKr for the corresponding period in 1998. The income for life insurance amounted to 40 million DKr, up from 24 million in 1998.
