Article Abstract:

Substantial changes have occurred in Shanghai, China as a result of the rapid expansion of the city's industrial base. Western-style glitzy shops, construction sites and road-widening projects dot the city's landscape and serve as a testament to the city's significant growth. Such a transformation came about mostly following Deng Xiaoping's trip to China's southern regions in 1992.

Asia is undergoing a boom in demand for telecommunications. The boom is a component of the economic growth of the region, and the potential market is unlimited. Countries involved in the boom include China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Cambodia and India.
