Satisfying market demand

Article Abstract:

The institutional equity in the 160 million pounds sterling BIMBO of paper and pulp chemicals producer Finnish Chemicals of Aetsa, Finland, was co-led by Prudential Venture Managers and HSBC Private Equity. The transaction took place in Dec 1996 and represented HSBC Private Equity's third largest investment in 1996 in mainland Europe. The due diligence process heavily focused on the probable future demand for sodium chlorate, which is a major business for the company. The speciality chemicals market has good growth opportunities.

The way out

Article Abstract:

Companies and venture capitalists seeking an exit from management buyouts (MBOs) must consider several factors including the firm's financial record, the strength of management, the economic situation, and potential buyers. The most common methods of obtaining an exit are via flotations or trade sales. Companies aiming for a flotation will need to demonstrate a sound financial record, and a committed and effective management. A trade sale could be advantageous to a small firm offering a successful niche product.
