Article Abstract:

Saury fish is abundant in the North Pacific Ocean. Exploiting the sauries' exotic fascination for light, saury-fishing boats use lights to resemble moonlight to attract the school and catch them. A Russian software and hardware firm Geotok, to improve the catch, developed a new device 'Stern trap'. Its design and performance is briefly explained.

Circle hooks save turtles

Article Abstract:

The advantage of using the age-old traditional Japanese hook with a circle hook for catching sea turtles is described. The new longline hook uses mackerel bait to reduce the death of sea turtles by 92% and increase the swordfish catches thereby protecting sea turtles and allowing commercial fishing to prosper.
