Scandal may send Yamaichi to refuge of suitor's arms

Article Abstract:

Yamaichi Securities Co. of Japan faces legal and financial problems that may force the company to be taken over by a foreign company, according to analysts. Yamaichi has reported losses in four of the last six years and faces investigation regarding allegations that it paid off Ryuichi Koike, who is also suspected of extorting funds from Nomura Securities Co. and Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank Ltd. Yamaichi's commission revenue is expected to drop 20% due to the pay off scandal.

Japanese bonds face test: different year-2000 problem looms for market

Article Abstract:

The Japanese government is planning to reenter the bond market via huge amounts of bond issues. Increasing interest rates have revived the government's interest in the market. Market analysts predict that Japan's Trust Fund Bureau will become a major bond seller in the future following massive withdrawals from the postal-savings system. Moreover, Japanese officials denied manipulating market rates by its pronouncements as suggested by some critics.
