Scottish Office freezes Charles out of 'undemocratic' process

Article Abstract:

Prince Charles has been snubbed by the Scottish Office, with regard to his opinions on the design of the new Scottish Parliament building. The new building will be built at Holyrood, Edinburgh and cost 50 million pounds sterling. The design will be chosen from entries across Europe, and judged by a panel of officials and architects. Prince Charles will not be asked to join the panel. The Scottish Office wants the new building completed by the end of 2001, and is looking for designers who have had previous experience of parliamentary building work.
