Scourge of God: Strict Islamic rules imposed in Afghanistan by the ruling Taliban are plunging that strife-torn country deeper into ruin

Article Abstract:

Strict Islamic rules have been imposed by the ruling Taliban in Afghanistan, overseen by Maulvi Qalamuddin, head of the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The rules severely limit the freedom of women, with the ban on women teachers bringing education to a virtual halt. Their access to international aid has also be cut by denying them the right to work, especially for international aid agencies. The United Nations aid agencies will only fund humanitarian projects where men and women can participate and benefit equally.
