On the guarding of borders

Article Abstract:

The decision of whether or not to guard our national borders should be made with reference to the ethical as well as the policy consequences. Individuals in wealthy countries have political power in the formation of immigration policies. Recognition of human elements, individuals' plights, and motivating factors is necessary to ethical policymaking and can be facilitated by conversations and interviews with those whom we have guarded against in the past.
