Sears Roebuck beats forecasts as provisions fall

Article Abstract:

Sears Roebuck & Co. posted financial results for the 1999 second-quarter that were higher than what analysts had predicted. The company posted a 1.5% decline in net income for the period to $331 million (314.5 million euros). During the same period in 1998, Sears Roebuck reported $336 million in net income. A gain of $18 million connected to an accounting charge was included into the quarterly results.

Weak sales force Sears to lower profit forecast

Article Abstract:

Sears, Roebuck & Co. announced that it is expecting to post between 63 cents and 67 cents (59.5 European cents and 63.2 European cents) in earnings for the third-quarter of 1999. The company reduced its earnings forecasts for the period following yet another month of low sales. Sears is forecasting that its earnings per share for the full 1999 year will rise at a "low-single digit percentage rate."
