The German car maker Volkswagen will consolidate the accountancy of its 100% owned companies in Spain VW Navarra, Volkswagen Finance, Gearbox, Volkswagen-Audi Espana (Vaesa), and Seat (which will become chief unit). The group would become the third largest company in Spain with a consolidated turnover of Pta 1,380,000mn, and the second most profitable car maker in Spain (profits will amount in 1997 to more than Pta 20,281mn).

Los restaurantes pierden 80,000 millones al cobrara con tarjeta

The Spanish restaurant sector claims to lose around Pta 80,000mn a year because of the high bank commission on credit card usage, which incurs an average cost of 3%. Restaurants in Catalunya claim to lose Pta 10,800mn because of such transactions. They are planning to launch a scheme to promote payment in cash, by giving away a free coffee after each meal. Credit card usage is expected to rise 25% by the year 2002 in Spain.
