Second markets galore

Article Abstract:

The Alternative Investment Market (AIM) is designed specifically for smaller companies which want to be listed on a public market. It is much bigger than its competitors, with 280 companies compared to its nearest rival which has 26. Foreign companies are also keen to be listed on the AIM, and one billion pounds sterling has been raised in investments. Four other European markets have been set up and they have agreed to operate together, however, they are not considered to be offering much competition to the AIM.

People matter

Article Abstract:

Pirelli UK Tyres used Black Horse Relocation Services to assist in moving truck tyre production operations from Burton-on-Trent, England, to Carlisle, England, in 1994. This resulted in the creation of a single relocation package for all employees, regardless of their position within the company. A series of presentations was made to employees to explain the package. Eventually, only around 10 people were relocated, and a redundancy programme was implemented for the remaining employees.

Location

Article Abstract:

A company's location can play a key role in creating the appropriate image for the business. However, there is no standard method for selecting the best location, and each company must proceed according to its own criteria. A relocation should only be considered if it will strengthen the business in the long term. All companies should include relocation in their contingency planning, as the need to relocate could arise at any time.
