Sempra Energy set to buy KN Energy in $1.9 billion deal

Article Abstract:

Sempra Energy has reached an agreement to purchase KN Energy Inc. for $1.9 billion. KN Energy is the second-largest operator of natural gas pipelines and storage in the US. The deal will make Sempra a major player in the dynamic US energy market. The stockholders of both companies still have to give their approval to the deal. The deal is also awaiting approval from federal and state regulators.

Key opposition threatens Scottish Power acquisition

United Kingdom-based Scottish Power PLC's bid to acquire United States-based electric utility company PacificCorp., is being opposed by consumer advocates in Oregon and Utah Governor Mike Leavitt. The proposed $7.6 billion merger bid could be delayed by two legislative bills pending in the Utah State Legislature.
