Seven heads of successful UK businesses outline their resolutions for 1999. Carphone Warehouse Chief Executive Charles Dunstone has opted for investment in Europe to bring further growth to his already fast-growing company. The Belgo Group is also to go overseas with its chain of mussels-based restaurant. Richer Sounds Chairman Julian Richer is looking for a larger business in which to invest. Go Chief Executive Barbara Cassani is expecting a 100% increase in staff, passengers and aircraft for the budget airline which is looking to expand its European routes.

AUSTRIA: AIREST UPS CAPACITY

Article Abstract:

Airest, the airline catering joint venture of Austrian Airlines, Swissair and Lufthansa, is to increased production capacity by 50% with investments of Sch 160mn by 2003. Airest has sold to its Swiss joint venture partner Restorama the stake in Alakart, which was established in 1999. Airest is thus withdrawing from the canteen sector. For 2001 Airest expects a turnover of Sch 970mn, compared with Sch 940mn (up 3%) in 2000. Profit is expected to at least match that of 2000, when the company saw a 20% increase in profits.

GERMANY: DO&CO WINS BRITISH AIRWAYS CONTRACT

Article Abstract:

British Airways has chosen Do & Co as the caterer of its flights in Germany. Under the 3-year contract the Austrian company will provide meals for more than 150 flights per week.
