Siemens fine ends a bribery probe: Germany's investigation of telecom arm is closed; other inquiries continue

Article Abstract:

Siemens AG will pay a court-ordered $284 mil penalty to close one part of what has become Europe's biggest bribery investigation. The penalty addresses alleged payments of bribes at the Siemens telecommunications equipment manufacturing unit. Siemens, which will not appeal the fine, is the European region's largest engineering firm by sales. Other investigations continue.

Nokia agrees to buy cellphone-ad firm

Article Abstract:

Finland's Nokia Corp. is buying US cellphone advertiser Enpocket to advance its presence in the software and services sectors. The deal's financial figures were not disclosed. Enpocket will enable Nokia to implement its mobile advertising initiative via cellphone ad formats that include text messages, video spots, and banners.

Siemens, Nokia delay closing of telecom venture

Article Abstract:

The megamerger of Siemens AG of Germany with Nokia Corp. of Finland is being delayed by the corruption investigation of the German electronics giant. It is projected the created company would produce 16 billion Euros ($21 billion) per year. The deal will be closing sometime in the first quarter rather than January 1st, 2007.
