SingTel goes shopping

Article Abstract:

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd has agreed in principle to acquire 20% of Advanced Info Service Ltd, the largest cellular telephone company in Thailand. The agreement involves an initial purchase of 36 million new shares from Advanced Info and 14.3 million shares from Shinawatra Computer and Communications, which owns 54% of Advanced Info. The acquisition is worth $317.5 million and is speculated to be the first in a series of acquisitions planned by Singapore Telecommunications.

Will Advanced Advance? Analysts Predict Rising Prices

Article Abstract:

The May 11th 2000 closing price on Advanced Info Service's shares was 330 baht ($8.54), a drop of almost 16% since the Thailand government's inquiry on whether customers' cellular phones and service were too expensive. However, many analysts predict the cell phone market will rebound, and advise investors to buy shares now in both Advanced, and Total Access Communication, Thailand's other cellular phone company.

DoCoMo shares glee over low offer fee

Article Abstract:

Cellular phone company NTT DoCoMo Inc. of Japan plans to offer approximately $8.59 billion new shares in an effort to raise money to pay for its $9.8 billion acquisition of AT&T Wireless Group. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Nikko Salomon Smith Barney Ltd. will arrange the sale for a 1.65% fee.
