Small but perfectly formed

Article Abstract:

There are still significant opportunities for private equity investment in the Nordic region. This is particularly the case in Sweden and Finland, which both saw the completion of 17 deals in 1998. Activity will continue to focus on Sweden, but this is also where activity is stabilizing. In contrast, average deal value continues to rise in Finland. Observers feel that there are good opportunities arising from corporate divestments in Finland, even though the country has only a small economy.

Working at the car wash

Article Abstract:

IMO Car Wash Group, founded in Germany in 1965, is Europe's largest conveyor car wash operator, with 430 sites. The business is attractive as a leveraged buyout subject because it has considerable scope for growth in under-penetrated markets and it has non-cyclical, robust cash flows. NatWest Equity Partners has injected 38 million pounds sterling into the business for an 80% stake, with the remaining 20% being held by the management team.

Sparks fly as advisers look to cash in

Article Abstract:

There has been a considerable rise in advisory work as the UK's regional electricity companies have started to become the subject of takeover bids. NM Rothschild is acting for Hanson on its purchase of Eastern Group, and could see additional work as rumours circulate about the future of Yorkshire Electricity and South Wales Electricity. Other developments include ScottishPower's hostile bid for Manweb.
