An improved part grouping model for minimizing makespan in FMS

Article Abstract:

Five pre-release planning sub-problems in flexible manufacturing systems have been identified and need to be addressed before actual production begins. They include part type selection, machine loading, machine grouping, production ratio and resource allocation. A study formulated the part type selection issue in conjunction with machine loading and part routing problems. Experimental methodology, results and conclusions are discussed.
