Spain in Asia

Article Abstract:

Spanish Prime Minister Felipe Gonzales is espousing the expansion of economic links between Spain and Asia. The setting up of a single European market in 1993 will forced Spanish companies to seek trade opportunities within the European Community. However, stiff competition from other European comapnies will make Spanish companies realize that there are better opportunities for them in Asia. Gonzales visited Japan in Jun,1992 to further strengthen the economic links between Spain and Japan. Spanish companies have expressed confidence in their ability to penetrate the growing Asian market.

Asian markets offer tempting prospects

Article Abstract:

Japan continues to be Spain's largest trading partner in Asia, although there was a slight decrease in Spanish exports to that country in 1991. Exports to China, Hong Kong and South Korea, Spain's other top Asian trading partners, increased by significant levels in the same year. However, Spain is still hounded by trade imbalances in favor of its Asian trading partners. Subsidiaries of the government holding group, Instituto Nacional de Industria, made the most significant inroads into the Asian market in 1991.
