Squashed over EMU

Article Abstract:

Major should not make a further concession to Tory Euroskeptics by not joining the single European currency. That would keep the UK out of detailed negotiations for economic and monetary union (EMU). Blair should declare his intention to join and treat his almost sure election as a mandate for EMU.

Squashed by Europe

Article Abstract:

Rifkind spoke negatively of the EMU on Sep 18, 1996, by claiming that Europe will be deeply divided if monetary union occurs. His attitudes reflect the Conservative Party's anti-EMU stance, which is a major platform for the party in the future election.
