Standard Chartered shifts in Singapore

Article Abstract:

Standard Chartered Bank said it can change gears to portfolio management because there have been sufficient mutual funds unveiled in Singapore. Since 1994, foreign fund managers were able to avail of its services after local banks refused to entertain them. An official said the Singapore-based unit of the U.K. banking group Standard Chartered PLC finds it the best time to begin with its financial advisory service. Alan Harden, who oversees the bank's global investment services group, said clients have become a critical mass in need of directions.

Iraqi port is open for business

The Iraqi port of Umm Qasr is ready to begin receiving regular cargo shipments after being slowed by repairs as a result of the 2003 Iraqi war. American and British soldiers spent weeks clearing the port of mines, wrecks, and of buoys that were misplaced.
