Upstart Enlight gives TV a private name

Article Abstract:

Enlight TV Production Co., one of China's largest private television producers, operates off of local television and cable stations, possessing the rights to advertise on those stations. The Chinese government does not allow networks to advertise or recruit staff within a limited area. Although Enlight is operating on a very thin line, they expect revenue to climb to $15 million this year, well above $4 million in earnings last year.

Starcon's success is a preview of distribution reform in China

Article Abstract:

China is opening up distribution channels as it prepares to enter the World Trade Organization. Foreign companies will be permitted to sell products wholesale in China, which should bring cost savings and business opportunities to multinational companies. A profile of U.S.-based Starcon Corp.'s distribution business in China is presented.

Government takes aim at foreign satellite broadcasters

Article Abstract:

The Chinese government has issued another directive in line with its 1993 ban on the reception of foreign satellite television broadcasts. The directive, which was published in the state press, contains a list of cable operators that are considered as potential violators. Foreign broadcasters that will likely be affected by the directive include Phoenix Satellite Television Co, Walt Disney Co and Time Warner Inc.
